Akakura: Akakura Kanko and Akakura Onsen ski areas
Resorts · 赤倉観光・赤倉温泉 · Checked Oct 2026 for 2026–27
Two side-by-side ski areas above Myoko's main onsen village. One has the long runs and the gondola, the other has the night skiing.
Akakura Kanko (赤倉観光, Akakan for short) and Akakura Onsen (赤倉温泉) are separate companies with separate tickets, but the slopes sit next to each other on the same face of Mt Myoko and are connected. Myoko Tourism lists a joint ticket that covers both.
Akakura Kanko dates from 1937 and is known for the Akakura Kanko Hotel sitting on its slopes. Akakura Onsen spreads across three areas, Yodel, Kumado and Ginrei, below the hot-spring village, and runs night skiing in the Kumado area.
Personally I'd suggest Akakura as the base for a first Myoko trip: sleep in Akakura Onsen village, ski Akakura Kanko on the clear days and save Akakura Onsen's night session for the evening you are not soaking.
Best when
- You want restaurants, bars and onsen within walking distance of the lifts
- Mixed groups: easy groomers at Akakura Onsen, longer and steeper runs at Akakura Kanko
- You want night skiing (Akakura Onsen, Kumado area)
- Spring trips: Akakura Kanko plans to run to 5 May 2027
Skip when
- You only want deep, ungroomed powder all day: Seki Onsen is closer to that
- You want one long run from top to bottom: Suginohara's 8.5 km run is the one
- You bought Akakura Onsen's early-bird ticket and planned to ski Kanko: it is not valid there

Akakura Kanko's own course list runs from the 750 m Hotel Beginner course (10°) to Joshi Kokutai, 1,700 m with a 22° pitch and the top often left ungroomed. Hotel A and Champion A are ungroomed advanced runs. Hotel B, 1,200 m at 17°, is described by the resort as its most popular course.
Akakura Onsen is the gentler of the two. Myoko Tourism puts its terrain at 50% beginner, 30% intermediate and 20% advanced, with terrain parks and areas for young children.

With kids
Akakura Kanko has a netted Chibikko Hiroba (little kids' area) at the bottom of the Hotel slope for children not yet skiing, with snowman building and sledding.
Primary-school day tickets are much cheaper at Akakura Onsen (¥2,500) than at Akakura Kanko (¥5,200), which matters if your kids stay on the lower slopes.
Getting there
Both bases sit just above Akakura Onsen village, so most people walk or take their lodge's shuttle. See the Tokyo transfer guide for trains and buses to Myoko Kogen.
