Akakura Onsen 赤倉温泉 · Akakura Onsen village · Champion chair return
Myoko Snowsports 妙高スノースポーツ
English-run Akakura hire with powder and on-piste fleets, kids from three, and published 07:30 opens. Best when you sleep in Akakura and want day-before fitting in the village. Skip when you need lodging pickup — they ask you to return kits in person.
What to know
Myoko Snowsports runs its rental from the Village Shop in Akakura Onsen, open daily 07:30 to 18:00 in winter. Gear can also be returned at its Champion Shop, at the base of the Champion No. 1 chairlift. Every service is offered in English, and the same company runs the English ski school in the village, so lessons and gear can be booked together.
You can collect your gear between 14:00 and 17:30 the afternoon before your first ski day at no extra charge. Swaps are unlimited during your stay, including from skis to a snowboard. Moving up from regular to powder or performance gear is allowed, and further swaps between performance models after that carry a ¥1,300 service fee.
The overnight valet is free: leave rented skis, poles and boards at the rental shop or the snowsports school building and they are waiting with your name on in the morning. Boots and helmets go back to your lodge's drying room. There is no pick-up or drop-off at your accommodation, so plan to walk in for fitting and to return gear in person on the last day.
For the 2026–27 season (12 Dec – 28 Mar), the cheapest online rate for an adult ski or snowboard set is ¥4,400 a day, or ¥6,000 with boots, when you book at least five days ahead (20% off the in-store price). Longer hires get cheaper from day four and day eight, so it is usually better to rent for the whole stay than skip a rest day. Boots go up to 34 cm for skis and 33 cm for snowboards. Goggles and gloves are sale-only. Book early for 20 December to mid-February. Checked 11 Oct 2026.
