Myoko Ski Resorts
Five distinct ski areas in the Myoko Kogen region, each with its own character and terrain.
Myoko Kogen comprises several ski areas, each accessible from onsen villages. Some resorts share lift tickets or offer linked passes. Check current arrangements when you book.
Akakura Onsen
The main onsen village area with convenient access to slopes. Good for families and those wanting easy village access. Lift system connects to Akakura Kanko.
Best When
Mid-January to February for consistent powder and all lifts operating.
Watch Out
Lower slopes can get tracked out quickly on powder days. Village area is compact—book accommodation early.
Akakura Kanko
Higher elevation with spectacular views and excellent tree skiing. More challenging terrain than Akakura Onsen. The Akakura Kanko Hotel area offers upscale lodging.
Best When
Late January through February for optimal snow coverage on upper runs.
Watch Out
Weather can close upper lifts. Fog is common. Respect marked boundaries—avalanche terrain is nearby.
Ikenotaira Onsen
Gentler terrain ideal for beginners and intermediates. More relaxed pace than other Myoko areas. Good onsen village at the base.
Best When
December through March—snow holds well at this elevation.
Watch Out
Limited advanced terrain. Can feel quiet on weekdays. Check lift schedules before making the trip.
Suginohara
Longest run in Japan (8.5km) with high-speed lifts and modern facilities. Popular with intermediate and advanced skiers. Less of a village feel.
Best When
January to early March for the full top-to-bottom run.
Watch Out
Lower elevation means rain is possible in warm spells. Long run can be crowded on weekends and holidays.
Seki Onsen
Smallest of the Myoko areas but offers authentic backcountry access and a rustic onsen village. For experienced skiers seeking powder and solitude.
Best When
Mid-winter after fresh snow—conditions change rapidly.
Watch Out
Limited English signage. Terrain is steep. Hire a guide if you are unfamiliar with Japanese backcountry protocols.
Lift Passes
Multi-area passes are available covering some or all Myoko resorts. Check current pass options at the ticket office or your accommodation. Some lodges offer discounted lift tickets.
