Aoyama Sports 青山スポーツ

Three Akakura shops, one right at the Akakura Kanko gondola, with powder and premium sets and 10% off online. Best when you want a counter at the Kanko base. Skip when you need an English-speaking desk confirmed before you go.

What to know

Aoyama Sports runs three rental shops: two in Akakura Onsen and one at Akakura Kanko Resort. The main shop, for the Akakura Onsen ski area, has parking and suits anyone arriving by car. The Tsuruya shop sits in the middle of the hot-spring village, an easy walk from most lodges, and stays open until 19:00. The Akakura Kanko shop is directly in front of the resort's gondola.

Every shop opens at 08:00, and you can collect and fit gear from 15:30 the day before your first ski day. Last rentals are 20 minutes before each shop closes. Multi-day hires are due back by 17:00 on the final day, even at the Tsuruya shop, which stays open later.

Booking online takes 10% off. The 2026–27 web rates start at ¥4,050 a day for a ski or snowboard set, ¥3,150 for a kids set and ¥5,400 for premium or powder skis, before the damage-waiver fee. The fleet includes Burton, Salomon, Atomic and K2. Ski boots run from 15 to 33 cm and clothing from 90 cm kids sizes to 7L, so tall riders and small children are both covered; ask ahead about specific sizes.

Staff include former All-Japan Ski Technical Championships competitors and JSBA A-class snowboard instructors, which helps when you want a proper boot fit rather than a quick grab. Renters can also buy a discounted one-day lift ticket for Akakura Onsen or Akakura Kanko (¥5,900 against the regular ¥7,000, limited numbers). Credit cards and tap payments are accepted. Prices checked 11 Oct 2026.
